In the evening of August 23, Charity Henan and Power of Role Models, a public appraisal activity, announced the result of top 10 charitable companies and top 10 philanthropists of Henan province. Song Zhaopu, director of Ruzhou Jingeng Hospital, was awarded with the honorary title of top 10 philanthropists.

The activity was organized by Henan Provincial Song Ching Ling Foundation, Dongfang Today (a newspaper), and Henan provincial non-government enterprise social responsibility promotion center. Henan TV station held an award party for the occasion.

Since May 2009, Mr. Song has extended free medical treatment to 180 cerebral palsy children from 10 welfare houses in the province. The hospital has invested nearly 10 million yuan to make rescue treatment available to nearly 300 cerebral palsy children under six years old from poverty-stricken families.

Song’s philanthropic acts have attracted the attention of Henan provincial civil affairs department, provincial disabled federation, Ministry of Civil Affairs, and the local people. This year, Bai Yansong, a famous anchor from China Central Television, presented a special report on Song’s deeds in his Newsweek program.

Song says winning the award means a new start rather than an end to rescuing children with cerebral palsy. He feels he has a duty of care and greater expectations from society. However, he says he is confident of the endeavor with support of the Party and government, and the local people.
