Ruzhou enjoys an abundance of mineral resources, with 46 mineral detected, including raw coal, bauxite, hydraulic limestone and geothermal water. It’s estimated that Ruzhou, dubbed as “a-hundred-mile coal sea,” has a raw coal reserve of 3.55 billion tonnes and a yearly coal productivity of 6 million tonnes, enabling it to rank among the 50 major coal mining cities and counties nationwide. Ruzhou’s estimated bauxite storage is 430 million tonnes, and hydraulic limestone 115 million tonnes. With a high-grade and convenient mining industry, Ruchuan’s resource advantages promise it a rosy future in industries such as energy, power, electricity, building materials, metallurgy, founding, etc.
Since the Reform and Opening-Up, Ruzhou, with its powerful industrial foundation, has gradually established six production bases for energy and chemical engineering, concrete, steel casting, starch, biscuits and Sanfen (sweet potato starch, sweet potato vermicelli and sweet potato starch sheet), utilizing its advantages in resources, local policies, geographical position and culture.
Ruzhou enjoys an optimized industrial structure with its four pillar industries: energy, building materials, metallurgy and food. Major industrial products include raw coal, coke, concrete, steel, food, cigarettes, electricity, fertilizer and ceramics. Many of its companies are speeding ahead of other provincial and national industrial competitors, such as Tianrui Group, Tianze Coke Company, Zhengtie Sanjia Company, Dragon Starch Company, Dream Food Co. Ltd., Shuncheng Chemical Engineering Co. Ltd., and Yaxing Casting Company. The China Huadian Corporation’s Heping Coal Branch, Yongcheng Coal and Electricity Holding Group planned to invest 20 billion yuan ($3 billion) to set up a series of projects on energy resource and heavy chemical engineering, with an annual productivity of 15 million tonnes of raw coal, 1.2 million tonnes of coke, 150,000 tonnes of tar, 200,000 tonnes of bauxite and bauxite products, 10,000 tonnes of methanol, and an electric generator set that can generate 4X900 kilowatts electricity every year.
Ruzhou aims to become the biggest energy and heavy chemical engineering base in Henan Province by the end of 2010. By then a new industry cluster with high added values in coal coking, coal-powered concrete and steel productions will also be established.
Ruzhou has a well-structured agriculture with abundance of wheat, corns, sweet potatoes, soybeans, tobacco leaves, peanuts, cartons, vegetables, flowers and plants.
