The town of Jiliao in the city of Ruzhou, Henan province, has taken sound measures to accelerate agricultural modernization and increase farmer income.

To carry out agricultural modernization, Jiliao is devoted to high-quality agricultural products and leading enterprises, for example, the edible fungi in the villages of Lidian, Guogou and Shiti; animal husbandry in the villages of Gaomiao, Jiliao and Lugou; and forestry in the villages of Pogen, Lidian and Donggou. In addition, the town recently set up the Jinmuyuan agricultural cooperative, Xinghua agricultural cooperative and Qianzongxingtai agricultural cooperative, which contribute to agricultural resource integration.

Jiliao has invested over 900,000 yuan ($146,000) to strengthen rural water infrastructure. It drilled 25 wells and purchased 25 water pumps as well as 5,000-meter-long water pipes to lay a good foundation for a bumper crop in the coming autumn.

In the first half of 2013, 13 villages in Jiliao have implemented infrastructure construction through the 'One Project, One Discussion' program, which attracted over 3.52 million yuan in investment, including 1.17 million yuan from the government and 2.35 million yuan from farmers. Over 26,800 farmers have benefited from the program.
