Ruzhou has set up a specialized organization to prevent heavy metal pollution on farmland to ensure food safety.

The organization will take a census aimed to better understand production, pollution sources, fertilizers and development trends of pollutants. Ruzhou also set up a warning mechanism to manage and fix heavy metal pollution on farmland.

Since July 2012, the Ruzhou municipal agricultural bureau has established four methods of heavy metal pollution prevention on farmland. The bureau has also confirmed relevant practices and collected earth samples. Sample collection concluded by the end of September with 965 samples collected. All the samples will be inspected by the Henan Provincial Agricultural Environment Surveillance Center.
