Pingdingshan grows 37 high-tech enterprises

Pingdingshan has grown 37 new high-tech enterprises, 11 at the provincial level, authorities said. During the period of the country’s 11th Five-Year Plan, the enterprises have attracted 73 provincial-level science and technology awards, and applied for 2,743 patents.

Sheng Guang Medical Products Corp is a new high-tech enterprise that researches, develops, produces and trades medical appliances. The enterprise has applied for 11 patents this year, one of which is a national invention patent and the other a utility model patent. The company’s products include disposable sterilized syringes and disposable infusion sets, which are sold all over China.

A spokesman for the city’s municipal science and technology bureau said that in 2006, the new high-tech industry output value was 10.55 billion yuan, with an added value of 2.76 billion yuan. In 2009, the industry output value more than tripled to 35 billion yuan, with added value reaching 12.8 billion yuan. The growth rate was among the highest in 18 provincial cities.

Of Pingdingshan’s high-tech enterprises, 12 yield more than 100 million yuan a year, while 8 earn more than 1 billion yuan.

The municipal government has enacted a series of policies to support the development of science and technology to meet the goals of the 11th Five-Year Plan.. Since 2006, the government has invested 53 million yuan to develop science and technology, of which 34.76 million yuan has been spent. Among 420 planned science and technology programs, 105 are in place.

Since 2006, Pingdingshan has witnessed a series of breakthroughs in major science and technology programs, including the National High-Tech Research and Development Program of China (863 Plan). The city also has welcomed leading technology projects such as the Shenzhou Spaceship Project.

In recent years, the municipal government has encouraged the construction of research and development centers through incubator projects and other incentives. In 2007, five provincial engineering research centers were established by local enterprises.
